Bagteria Cells

Took me a while, I should have posted this before since its an old project but here it is! This is for a project I did for my dye and print class. We had to make a series of three bags.

"Based on microscopic biological imagery, Katherine’s bags can be worn anywhere on the body, self-attached by magnets.  They function both as a discrete pocket and as a jewelry-like adornment, suggesting organic growth and form." 

This is how my teacher described it and I thought it was perfect!

These three beautiful ladies are modeling my three designs.

I thought it would be cute to see them on guys as well and I found three guys wearing plaid shirts. Dont they look amazing!

They have an industrial red felt base, handmade felt on top with applique pieces and lots of both machine and hand embroidery. They have a small pocket at the back and attach to anywhere with magnets. I was inspired by microscopic picture of different bacteria. Thus the name of the series 'Bagteria Cells'

Fall 2009 Oversize Necklaces

I absolutely love oversized necklaces, Ever since I made my felted necklace I've had a slight obsession with them and specially the bib necklaces that use a lot of fabric a the main base. I feel they are a beautiful extension to the body and just look wonderful. I want to try to experiment with metals more and include beadwork on my next project. Yay Im excited.

Faerie-ality

This was a necklace I made for my print class. It was part of a costume design for the play Madama Butterfly. The belt, bracelet and the top part of the necklace are crochet with mohair yarn. The necklace is made of layers of organza with disperse dyes printed. Very fantasy and fairy tale inspired. Theres a book called Fairie-ality that really inspired the theme of my costume.

This is a corset belt I also made for my costume it is on brown vinyl and machine embroidered with multicolor thread. 

This was the skirt made of a silk stiched waist piece and layers of stitched and dirperse dyed organza.

I love the transparency this fabric gives as it is layered.

Bleeding out

Hi Hi!
So I decided to start blogging! I dont really know if I will have anything interesting to say but I will always have pretty pictures. Technology is not my friend at all but we are living in an era where its all dependent on it so Im going to get with the times and get out of my cave. Take a walk into the woods with me...hope you enjoy what I blog about :D








First Post!!!!

This is a necklace and bracelet I made for my textiles investigation class. It is made out of red wool fleece, mohair red yarn and wire. It was wet felted all together. wire runs through the top part of the necklace for support. Small needle felted blood cells were included after as well as the button.

This is also a sample piece inspired by blood cell, I loved it so much that I hung it on my wall. Well took me a while to find the exact size hoop because it was cut as a circle and I didnt leave much space. This is hand stitched with red mohair yarn on hand printed and dyed cotton. The fabric was actually a sample for class, just playing around with color and print and Im really glad I saved it because scrap fabric and samples are always useful for something :D
